Fortune Barishal’s chase for victory in the opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League 2024 (BPL) suffered a major setback when captain Tamim Iqbal was dismissed for a mere seven runs, leaving his side in deep trouble.
Earlier in the match, Barishal, won the toss and opted to bowl first and restricted Durbar Rajshahi to a competitive total of 197. Rajshahi's innings was lead by significant contribution from Yasir Ali's stellar knock well-supported by and a solid knock from skipper Anamul Haque.
However, Barishal, chase got off to the worst possible start as Tamim Iqbal was sent back to the pavilion after early departure of Najmul Hossain Shanto.

The incident occurred on the third ball of the second over when Taskin Ahmed struck for Rajshahi. Tamim attempted to flick a full-delivery on the middle and leg stump to the leg side but missed completely. The ball smacked into his back pad. that led to an easy appeal for LBW.
The on-field umpire had no hesitation in raising the finger. Tamim, who appeared to be in no mood to challenge the decision, walked off without reviewing the dismissal.
The early exit of Barishal’s star batter has definitely put immense pressure on the team, and with the asking rate climbing steadily, the chase now seemed a steep task. Fortune Barishal will need a strong recovery from their middle and lower order if they are to stay in contention for a win. At the time of writing, Barishal need 86 runs in 47 balls.
