Shaheen Afridi has been in the news for all the wrong reasons and the latest was for his shambolic performance in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The star Pakistan pacer, who is having an internal tussle with his cricket board, made his BPL debut on Monday, which didn't go according to the plan.
Shaheen, who participated in the ODI series Vs South Africa was not included in the Test series against the same opposition, citing workload management issues. However, for some reason, he was given the NOC to play in the BPL.
Shaheen's dream BPL debut turned into a nightmare as the star pacer, playing for Fortune Barishal was taken to the cleaners by the opposition team. The fast bowler lacked the cutting edge as his national teammate, Mohammad Haris smacked him for a six, and in the same over, Anamul Haque also cleared the ropes as Barishal skipper, Tamim Iqbal took him off the attack.
Shaheen did manage to complete his quota of 4 overs, but the pacer conceded 33 runs and picked up zero wickets in the process.
Shaheen involved in disciplinary saga
As per the PCB selectors, Shaheen was rested from the South Africa Tests due to workload issues. However, a report was generated by Cricket Pakistan which stated that Shaheen was asked to play a four-day warm up match before the Proteas tour, which he rejected.
As a result, he was omitted from the Test squad and the pacer wasn't even allowed to stay with the team on their Test tour.
His teammate, Babar Azam also rejected the idea to play a warm-up match, but interestingly, he was selected in the squad, while Shaheen was omitted.
