Smriti Mandhana made a significant impact on Sunday (July 28) when India faced Sri Lanka in the Women's Asia Cup 2024 final in Dambulla. The left-handed batter made 60 off 47 balls, laced with 10 gorgeous fours, before eventually holing out to Chamari Athapaththu off Kavisha Dilhari.

The wicket came during the 17th over of India's innings when Mandhana tried to break the shackles against Dilhari. However, the slog sweep did not get the proper connection, and Athapaththu, placed at deep mid-wicket, ran from the boundary line to take a stunning catch.

India, batting first, raced to 165/6 in the final. Mandhana, of course, top-scored with an impressive knock, while Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh made breezy cameos, making 29 and 30* respectively to take India to a challenging total.

At the time of writing this, Sri Lanka are in the chase, with Athapaththu aiming to lead by example in the all-important contest. Renuka Singh Thakur has taken the new ball for India, as they would love to keep on the momentum going in the competition.
