Smriti Mandhana, who has been in great form recently, faced an unfortunate run-out during the second ODI against the West Indies at Reliance Stadium, Vadodara, on December 24. After her brilliant century in the first ODI, she seemed set for another big score but was dismissed for 53 runs off 47 balls due to a miscommunication.

A Steady Start Gone Wrong

Mandhana opened the innings alongside Pratika Rawal after India chose to bat first. The duo was building a solid partnership and had reached 110 runs. However, disaster struck in the 17th over, bowled by Karishma Ramharack.

On the third ball of the over, Rawal played a fuller delivery off the inner half of her bat towards square leg and immediately called for two runs. Mandhana responded, but as Ramharack quickly reached the ball, Rawal decided to send Mandhana back.

Unfortunately, Mandhana was already too far down the pitch and couldn’t return to her crease in time. Kycia Knight whipped the bails off, leaving Mandhana stranded. Despite this incident, Mandhana calmly gave a pat on young Pratika Rawal's back as she walked out.

West Indies Draw First Blood

The run-out ended what was shaping up to be a strong partnership and provided a crucial breakthrough for the West Indies. Mandhana’s knock included seven fours and two sixes, showcasing her attacking intent before the mix-up cut her innings short.

At the time of writing, India are at 119/1 in 19.1 overs, with Pratika Rawal and Harleen Deol at the crease, looking to rebuild after Mandhana’s departure.
