The Champions Trophy 2025 is on the horizon, and fans are eager to see who will represent India in this prestigious tournament. While the official schedule is yet to be released, England have already announced its squad for the hybrid-hosted event, jointly held by Pakistan and the UAE. Before the Champions Trophy, England will tour India for a limited-overs series, which includes five ODIs and three T20Is. These matches will serve as a warm-up for the Indian team and a chance to reclaim the title they last won eight years ago.
Is Kuldeep Yadav Fit to Play?
India key wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is currently recovering from a groin injury that required surgery in Germany last month. He has not resumed bowling, making his participation in the England series uncertain.
"Kuldeep is yet to start bowling. Once he starts, he will have to appear for a match simulation or two, a few days before he is given the green light. As for the England matches, it’s not impossible but tough (for Kuldeep to return) as just over a month remains for those games to begin. But as far as the Champions Trophy is concerned, there could be a chance of his comeback as there will be more time for it,” according to a BCCI source quoted by The Telegraph.
Kuldeep’s absence could be a significant blow for India, as he played a crucial role in the T20 World Cup 2024, taking 10 wickets in five matches.
Kuldeep Yadav Injury and Rehab Update
Kuldeep sustained his groin injury during the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. His childhood coach, Kapil Panday, revealed that Kuldeep was in pain even during the match. After the injury worsened, he underwent successful surgery in Germany.
Currently, Kuldeep is undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence, focusing on leg exercises and gradually building his strength. His coach remains optimistic about his recovery.
“This month itself he should start bowling. I’m quite confident. He’ll be here (in Kanpur) by next week, and then we’ll make further plans. It may be a little early to predict Kuldeep’s comeback, as he will resume bowling first and then has to play a practice game or two while going through the other tests and processes," Kapil Panday said.
Kuldeep’s performances have been vital for Team India in all formats of the game. With 172 wickets in 106 ODIs at an impressive average of 26.00, his contributions remain invaluable.
