In a troubling turn of events, India lost two consecutive wickets in the first hour of the Rajkot Test as Shubman Gill lost his wicket to Mark Wood’s brilliance. Gill looked extremely uncomfortable on the crease as Wood knocked him down with a peach delivery.

India clashed with England for the third Test of the five-game series in Rajkot earlier today. Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel were handed Test debut caps as India walked out to bat first.

However, the dynamic opening duo, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, were put into trouble in the early hours of Day 1’s play. The English pacers James Anderson and Mark Wood were generating enough seam and swing momentum to put the hosts under pressure.

Meanwhile, the English pacer bore the reward of their discipline as they knocked out Jaiswal in the fourth over of the first innings.

Regardless, Sharma was later joined by Shubman Gill, Vizag Test’s centurion. However, Gill looked uncomfortable on the crease from ball one. He couldn’t read the seam moment as he began playing defensive on the backfoot. But Gill’s resilience couldn’t last as Mark Wood’s peach delivery proved to be too good enough.

Wood bowled a typical full delivery on the off-stump line. However, the ball angled in at the last minute to deceive Gill. The batter was in a fix as he had to play and ended up getting a faint inside edge, which flew straight to keeper Ben Foakes. The wicket-keeper completed a regulation catch to end Shubman Gill’s distressed outing on the crease.

As Gill walked back, disappointment was fairly visible on Rohit Sharma’s face as India lost two crucial wickets in just an hour’s play.

Rebuilding from this stage is an uphill task for Rohit Sharma, as he is the only remaining experienced batter in the lineup for this particular Test game.
