The new era in Indian cricket is all set to go underway today as the Men's team will take on Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the 3-match series.

Gautam Gambhir has been appointed the new India head coach, and under his guidance, the Men's T20I side will take on the Lankan Lions in a white-ball series, starting from today (July 27).

SKY lights up Rajkot with stellar century

It has been almost 1.5 years (Jan 2023) since the last time these two teams met in a T20I match. It was the famous match when Suryakumar Yadav notched up his third century in this format, and India won the game convincingly.

Batting first, India lost Ishan Kishan early, but Rahul Tripathi stepped up at number 3 and scored a quick-fire 16-ball 35 and it provided momentum to the Indian team at the end of the power-play.

After his lightning start, it was time for the Suryakumar show, as he showed no mercy to the bowlers and bludgeoned his way to a remarkable 51-ball 112* laced with 9 sixes and 7 fours. He was amply supported by Shubman Gill 46) and Axar Patel (21*) as India reached a commanding 228/5.

SL breakdown under pressure

In reply, Sri Lanka struggled to get any sort of momentum as the openers added 44 runs, but the required rate shot up and the Lankan Lions lost wickets at regular intervals. None of the Sri Lankan batters could provide resistance against the Indian bowlers, and they were eventually bundled out for 137.

Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers for India, picking up 3 for 20 inside 3 overs.
