Comeback man Shoaib Bashir emerged as England's man with the golden arm as he dismissed the in-form Shubman Gill with a jaffa on day 2 of the ongoing Test match in Ranchi.

After India lost Rohit Sharma early, Gill and Jaiswal steadied the ship for the hosts, stitching a vital 82-run stand for the second wicket. However, Bashir broke the partnership, trapping Gill plumb in front of the stumps.

The incident occurred in the 25th over when English captain Ben Stokes decided to continue with Bashir at one end in pursuit of a breakthrough. The move paid rich dividends as the promising off-spinner got rid of Gill on the first delivery of his new over.

Bashir bowled a flighted delivery that turned significantly after pitching around the fifth stump line. While defending the ball, Gill was beaten comprehensively, with the ball hitting his front pad under the knee roll.

As the English players appealed, the on-field umpire raised his finger, declaring him out. Although Gill challenged the decision by going upstairs, the TV umpire upheld the on-field call, going as per Hawk-eye's prediction.

Following Gill's departure, Rajat Patidar joined Jaiswal in the middle. As of writing, the hosts were 92 for two, with Patidar and Jaiswal batting on 4* and 45*, respectively.
