India made a perfect start against Pakistan on Sunday in a high-voltage Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2023, taking place at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were the architects for the Men in Blue, who raced to 115/0 in just 15 overs after Babar Azam asked them to bat.

While Rohit played too many dot balls in the early stages of the innings, Gill seemed super confident in the middle right from the get-go. The stylish young opener destroyed the highly-rated Men in Green pace, with Shaheen Afridi – the leader of the pack – taking the brunt of the blows.

Shaheen gave up as many as 31 runs in his first three overs of the day, and Gill hammered him during that time from all directions. During this period, the left-arm pacer conceded six fours and one six, with Gill hitting all six fours, and Rohit smashing a gorgeous six in the opening over.

Not only the pace trio, even Pakistan vice-captain Shadab Khan seemed helpless against Rohit and Gill. The leg-spinner conceded 31 runs off his first two overs, with Rohit going with all guns blazing against him.

At the time of writing, Rohit is batting on 56 off 48 balls, while Gill is on 55 off 49 balls.
