The high-octane match between cricketing giants India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours stage witnessed an unforgettable moment as Indian skipper Rohit Sharma set the stadium ablaze with a remarkable six off Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi.

Rohit's six off Afridi left fans in awe

In a display of sheer class and confidence, Rohit, faced with Afridi's relentless bowling attack, showed remarkable restraint through the initial five dot balls. However, seizing the moment in the sixth delivery, he brilliantly capitalized on a full-length ball aimed at the pads.

With a splendid flick of his bat, Rohit sent the ball soaring over the deep fine-leg boundary for a stunning six. This audacious shot wasn't just about the runs, it showed India's aggressive intent early on in the innings. More significantly, this shot made Rohit the first-ever batter to hit a six off Afridi's opening over in One Day Internationals.

Meanwhile, the clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium commenced with Pakistan captain Babar Azam winning the toss. Opting to field first, Azam hoped to capitalize on early breakthroughs. Interestingly, during the post-toss interaction, Rohit revealed that he would've chosen to take the bat first, hinting at the batting-friendly conditions of the pitch.

While the men in green decided to stick with their tried and tested playing XI from the previous match, Team India made some strategic changes. Jasprit Bumrah marked his return in place of Mohammed Siraj. Shreyas Iyer, unfortunately, had to sit out due to a back spasm, allowing KL Rahul to step in. Youngster Ishan Kishan, after his brilliant performance in the previous game against Pakistan, was rightly retained in the playing XI.

At the time of writing this article, India, powered by Rohit's early statement and Shubman Gill's aggressive knock finds itself in a commanding position. Inside 15 overs, they have comfortably reached 113/0, setting a strong foundation for a huge total.
