Even though Shreyas Iyer made little impact with the bat after coming to play for Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy 2024 semi-final against Tamil Nadu, he wrapped things up to take Ajinkya Rahane & Co. home.
Coming to bat at No. 6, Shreyas fell for a paltry eight-ball three to Sandeep Warrier, his former KKR colleague. Yet, riding on Shardul Thakur’s maiden First-Class century, Mumbai posted a respectable total of 378 in reply to Tamil Nadu’s 146.
Then, Tamil Nadu were folded for 162, leaving them to suffer an innings and a 70-run defeat in a heartbreaking result for Sai Sudharsan, N Jagadeesan, R Sai Kishore, Vijay Shankar, Washington Sundar, Baba Indrajith, and Kuldeep Sen, among others.
For Mumbai, Shams Mulani took the final wicket, and ironically, it was Shreyas Iyer who completed a simple catch of the man who dismissed him, Sandeep Warrier.
