Shardul Thakur backed his superlative and game-transforming century in the first-innings of the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Tamil Nadu with a pair of new-ball strikes for Mumbai on the pivotal Day 3 of the knock-out fixture at the Bandra Kurla Complex.

The experienced allrounder, who had completely changed his team's fortunes with a swashbuckling knock of 109 off just 104 balls after walking in at No.9 with Mumbai in a precarious hole at 106/7 in response to TN's 146 all out, then dismissed opposition openers Sai Sudharsan and N Jagadeesan.

Bringing his trademark outswinger to the fore, Thakur first thwarted Jagadeesan out LBW for a duck to give Mumbai a major upper hand and then reinforced his team's dominance on the proceedings with the wicket of rising young left-hander Sudharsan.

Thakur Gets Sudharsan, Jagadeesan For Mumbai

Coming in from the over-the-wicket angle, Thakur got one to swing in extremely late against Jagadeesan's downswing and had him LBW after a loud appeal with the umpire raising his finger without hesitation.

The Mumbai pacer then dismissed Sudharsan with an even better delivery, which swung back into the left-hander and had him inside edging an attempted drive on the frontfoot which wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore took comfortably.

Thakur's double strike pushed Tamil Nadu back in their quest to try and overhaul Mumbai's first-innings advantage of 232 as the dominant hosts took giant stride towards pulling off an outright victory in the marquee Ranji semifinal.

A strong allround display in the semifinal of India's premier domestic first-class competition was critical for Thakur as he reminded the selectors of his presence and value after being dropped from the Test team since the second game of the tour of South Africa in Cape Town following a sustained dip.
