In a crucial encounter during Match 14 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024, Lahore Qalandars' captain Shaheen Afridi set the stage ablaze at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday. 

Facing off against Multan Sultans, Afridi's sensational delivery sent shockwaves through the opposition, dismissing his counterpart Mohammad Rizwan for a duck and setting a tone of dominance from the get-go.

The moment arrived in the very first over of the match, with Shaheen Afridi employing his signature in-swinging delivery to devastating effect. After bowling four dots, on the fifth ball, Afridi pitched the ball with precision around the off-stump, allowing it to swing back sharply.

Rizwan, caught off-guard by the pace and movement, failed to connect properly. The ball deftly sneaked the gap between bat and pad, taking an inside edge before emphatically dismantling the stumps. 

This dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan, who has been in brilliant form, provided the Lahore Qalandars with a much-needed morale boost.

Meanwhile, despite the sensational start provided by their captain, Lahore Qalandars have found themselves in an abysmal position in PSL 2024. The reigning champions have experienced a startling downturn, suffering defeats in their first five matches of the tournament. 

This series of setbacks has placed their campaign on a perilous edge, with deficiencies in both batting and bowling departments contributing to their inability to clinch victories, irrespective of batting first or chasing targets.

At the time of writing this article, Multan Sultans, led by Usman Khan and Reeza Hendricks, are aiming to rebuild their innings, reaching 23/1 after three overs. 

The early loss of Rizwan has added pressure but also set the stage for a potentially exciting contest as the Sultans seek to assert their position at the top of the table against a determined Lahore Qalandars side eager to reverse their fortunes.
