Pakistan star pacer, Shaheen Afridi, once again showcased his brilliance with the ball as he provided the much-needed breakthrough for his team in the third ODI of the ongoing tri-nation series at the National Stadium, Karachi, on February 12.

Afridi dismissed South African opener Tony de Zorzi for 22 runs off 18 balls, breaking a strong opening stand and bringing Pakistan back into the game.

Shaheen Afridi Breaks the Momentum

After winning the toss, South Africa opted to bat first and got off to a solid start. The openers looked comfortable at the crease and were building a good partnership, putting pressure on Pakistan’s bowlers. However, Afridi had other plans.

In the 8th over, he delivered a brilliant delivery that got the outside edge of de Zorzi’s bat, and the ball flew towards second slip. Salman Ali Agha reacted quickly, diving to his right and completing a fantastic catch. This crucial breakthrough ended a 51-run opening stand and gave Pakistan the much-needed momentum.

Afridi bowled a good-length delivery in the off-stump channel, making the ball move slightly away after pitching. De Zorzi attempted to defend but ended up edging it straight into Salman’s hands. The change in bowling ends worked perfectly for Afridi, as he successfully “drew first blood” for Pakistan.

At the time of writing, South Africa are at 64 for 1, with captain Temba Bavuma (22)* and Matthew Breetzke (3)* at the crease, looking to rebuild the innings.
