Sanju Samson's class and talent has never been questionable. However, time and again, his critics have pointed out his inconsistency and irresponsible batting and that has meant that he has not found regular chances in the Indian colours. However, his ODI performances have been pretty good whenever he has got opportunities, but what was missing was a hundred, a big score that is quite essential in stats-loving country like India.

Sanju has finally ticked that box as well, with a spectacular century against South Africa on a difficult track at Paarl. The fact that it has come in a decider, a pressure game where every batter found it difficult to get going, speaks a lot about his special talent.

Sanju Samson walked out to bat at number 3, a promotion from the last game and he made it count, mixing caution with aggression beautifully. He played some delightful shots to start his innings and then have to limit his strokeplay as India lost KL Rahul. However, he did not let pressure get to him and accelerated soon as Tilak also got into his groove.

The duo stitched a 116-run partnership and though Tilak departed after scoring his fifty, Sanju carried on and got to his century on the last delivery of the 44th over. It was his first international century and Samson eventually departed for 108 off 114 balls, announcing his arrival on the big stage.
