Indian batsman Sanju Samson packed a fighting half-century for his side against South Africa in the third ODI of their three-match series at Paarl’s Boland Park. Arriving to the crease following the early dismissal of debutant Rajat Patidar, and rebuilding the Indian innings with skipper KL Rahul after Sai Sudharsan’s entrapment, the cricketer bludgeoned four elegant boundaries on his way to his first 50 runs to lead team’s run-scoring charge in their series decider.

Samson even pulled South Africa’s in-form new-ball speedster Nandre Burger for an alluring boundary to get going early in his innings itself.

Sanju Samson, batting at number three, arrived to the crease in the fifth over of the Indian innings. After Team India ended up losing both its openers by 49 runs in less than eight overs, the cricketer employed a cautious approach before unleashing a sequence of elegant boundaries and street-smart strike-rotation.

The right-hander even crashed South African pacer Nandre Burger with an elegant pull down the leg side to signal his intentions early in his innings itself.

Sanju Samson went on to produce the fourth half-century of his ODI career, and successfully rebuilt the Indian innings with fighting partnerships with skipper KL Rahul and number five Tilak Varma after team’s early strikes.

Samson is playing only the 16th ODI of his career, despite making his format debut back in July 2021 with an away game against Sri Lanka at Colombo.
