Sameer Rizvi with winning six vs PBKS (Source: @IPL/X.com)
Sameer Rizvi was bought by CSK ahead of IPL 2024, keeping in mind his power and finishing skills, but he could not live upto the billing. They released him before the 2025 season and DC snatched him in the 2025 auction. He then played the very first game of the season, but he failed and could not deliver in the following matches too. However, the right-handed batter has finally shown his skills in the last match of the season by taking Delhi Capitals over the line against in-form Punjab Kings.
Sameer Rizvi Slams His Maiden IPL Fifty
In a tense run-chase, he displayed great character and took the game deep with timely hits. Finally, when DC needed 5 from 4 balls, Rizvi ended the game with a stunning six, bringing back memories of MS Dhoni's vintage final over finishes. Sameer Rizvi ended with an unbeaten knock of 58 from 25 balls.
Sameer Rizvi walked out to bat at number 5 after Sediqullah Atal's wicket in the 11th over. DC had 93 on the board at that time and it looked like they would find it tough in the middle overs yet again. However, Sameer Rizvi after taking some time initially, accelerated beautifully and built a brilliant stand with Karun Nair.
The right-handed batter did not stop after the wicket of Karun Nair, and smashed some timely boundaries to keep DC in par with the required rate in the run-chase. The winning six was also a fantastic hit, it was a full ball on off from Marcus Stoinis. Rizvi bent low and played a brilliant sweep which almost went out of the ground. It was a fantastic shot right off the middle of the blade and Rizvi with this special maiden fifty in IPL has well and truly announced himself.
Delhi Capitals won the game by six wickets and have ended the season with 15 points. Punjab Kings, on the other hand, would now need to win the final game against MI to give themselves a chance to finish in top-2.
