The all-important PSL 2024 qualifier clash against Multan Sultans began on a rough note for Peshawar Zalmi, as they lost their in-form opener Saim Ayub in the very first over. Ace English speedster David Willey emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for the Sultans, dismissing the southpaw cheaply and giving his team an early advantage in the game.

After opting to bat first on a placid surface, Peshawar Zalmi had high hopes from Saim Ayub, who has been in sublime form this PSL season. However, they suffered a massive blow right after the game commenced, with Willy getting rid of the stylish batter in the first over.

It was a short of good length delivery from Willey, as Ayub went for an audacious pull shot upon misreading the length. As a result, he miscued the lofted shot, with the ball gobbling up in the air for a long time.

Yasir Khan, stationed at the deep square leg fence, committed no mistake, holding on to the catch easily. Following his dismissal, Saim walked back to the hut with disappointment, while Willey celebrated the prized scalp with his teammates.

However, skipper Babar Azam and keeper-batter Mohammad Haris have somewhat brought Zalmi's innings back on the track. As of writing, they were 43 for one in 5.1 overs, with Babar and Haris batting on 25* and 17*, respectively.
