On Monday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) rocked the in-form Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chennai. After bottling the Shreyas Iyer-led team for 137/9, CSK's captain - Ruturaj Gaikwad - anchored the chase with his first-ever half-century wearing the captain's hat in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).

Gaikwad, who has been out of sorts in the IPL 2024, started in the chase cautiously. Assisted by an attacking Rachin Ravindra, the CSK skipper got a moment to find his feat.

After losing his opening partner, the 27-year-old held the forte, rotating the strike precisely and scoring odd boundaries. He completed his landmark on 45 balls and ended the night with a 58-ball 67, including nine boundaries.

Earlier in the evening, Ravindra Jadeja's canny bowling made sure he toppled the KKR team from 56-1 to 137/9.

As the innings progressed, Gaikwad was not alone in the chase. He was supported by the likes of Shivam Dube (28), Daryl Mitchell (25), and Ravindra (15), showcasing the team's collective effort.

The chase culminated in a dramatic fashion as MS Dhoni, in a show of unity, gave the strike back to Gaikwad to seal the game with a boundary.

CSK eventually bagged two points with a seven-wicket over KKR, who has faced their maiden defeat of this season.
