Alzarri Joseph had a strong start in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener against Papua New Guinea at the Providence Stadium on Sunday (June 2). The West Indies pacer made an immediate impact by striking in his first over and removing PNG captain Assad Vala.

The highlight came when Joseph, bowling in the fifth over, delivered a length ball outside off. Vala, on 21 runs, attempted an aggressive shot but ended up hitting it uppishly behind square on the off side.

Stationed at backward point, Roston Chase showcased his athleticism by taking a stunning catch at an awkward height, using a reverse cup technique.

Earlier in the match, West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl, quickly sending PNG opener Tony Ura back to the pavilion for just 2 runs and later dismissing Lega Siaka for 1 run.

At the time of writing, PNG are struggling at 77 runs for 4 wickets in 10 overs, with Sese Bau and Charles Amini at the crease.
