In the ongoing three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, Charith Asalanka failed to make a significant impact in the first ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium on August 2. 

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first, but this decision backfired as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Asalanka, who struggled throughout the preceding T20 series, continued his poor form. He was dismissed by India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, who took a stunning catch at first slip.

The incident occurred during Sri Lanka's innings in the 24th over. India’s star spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, bowled a good length delivery outside off stump that turned away from the left-handed Asalanka.

Attempting to run the ball down to third man, Asalanka stayed inside the crease and opened the face of his bat, but he ended up playing it straight to Rohit Sharma, who took the straightforward catch without having to move.

Asalanka managed to score only 14 off 21 balls before his dismissal. At the time of writing, India are at 98 for 4 in 25 overs, with Pathum Nissanka and Janith Liyanage at the crease, aiming to stabilize the innings after a shaky start.
