Rishabh Pant, Harshit Rana To Feature In Inaugural Edition Of Delhi Premier League

On Friday, August 2, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitely confirmed that Delhi Capitals' captain, Rishabh Pant, will participate in the upcoming inaugural Delhi Premier League starting later this month.

Similar to TNPL in Tamil Nadu, MPL in Maharashtra, Delhi too will start its T20 league to focus on the growth of Delhi players. Rohan Jaitely confirmed that Pant will headline the event but his availability depends on national commitments.

Other than Pant, KKR star bowlers Harshit Rana and Navdeep Saini too will partake in the Delhi Premier League. 

“Rishabh Pant, Navdeep Saini, Harshit Rana and other Indian players will feature in the inaugural season of DPL. I talked with Rishabh Pant and he has promised me to participate in the league but it only depends on his availability and national commitments. But as of now, he will be playing. Navdeep and Harshit will also feature in the league,” said Jaitely at the trophy inauguration ceremony on Friday.

All About Delhi Premier League

The matches for Delhi Premier League will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Both men’s and women’s matches will be organised, while six teams were auctioned for a total amount of Rs 49.65 crore.

The first season of DPL will feature a total of 40 matches, with 33 games in the men’s category and seven in the women’s.

Six franchises will be part of the tournament which are West Delhi Lions, North Delhi Strikers, South Delhi Superstarz, Purani Delhi-6, Delhi Kings, and East Delhi Riders. 

Recently, DDCA also unveiled Virender Sehwag as the brand ambassador of the league. At present, Pant is with India for the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he is not a part of the first match. Notably, after the Sri Lanka series, India will play against Bangladesh in September. 

Shikhar Dhawan To Buy A Team

There are reports that Shikhar Dhawan might also buy one of the teams in the upcoming Delhi Premier League.
