Starc-Boland Silence Indians Before Tea
India's first innings in the pink-ball Test at Adelaide started dramatically after skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat. The visitors were quickly reduced to 82/4 after 23 overs of intense cricket.
Mitchell Starc got an early breakthrough by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal off the first ball of the match, becoming only the second bowler in history to take a Test wicket with the first ball thrice. Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were steady, adding 69 runs for the second wicket before both were dismissed by Starc and Scott Boland, respectively.
Starc sent KL Rahul packing for a climbing delivery that Nathan McSweeney caught wonderfully at Gully. Virat Kohli did look quite intent in the early going, but he, too, fell to Starc just before the break. Boland then got Gill lbw in the 22nd over.
India's lower order saw Rohit Sharma come in with Rishabh Pant and the latter managed a solitary boundary. Australian seamers, spearheaded by Starc and Boland, bowled in utter discipline and intensity to reduce India to a precarious position, ending the first session at 82/4.
