Siraj dismissed Ollie Pope [X.com]
Riding on a brilliant DRS call from skipper Rohit Sharma, ace Indian speedster Mohammed Siraj got the prized breakthrough of Ollie Pope in the ongoing third Test between India and England in Rajkot.
The incident occurred in the 30th over when Indian captain Rohit Sharma took the gamble of bringing Siraj back into the attack in pursuit of a wicket. The seamer from Hyderabad didn't let his team down, as he trapped Pope plumb in front of the stumps with a lethal nip-backer.
It was a good length delivery from Siraj, which came back into Pope sharply after pitching. The batter got stuck in the crease, with the ball hitting him on his front pad. It looked close in real time, but the on-field umpire declared Pope not out.
However, Rohit and Siraj were convinced that the ball would hit the stumps and hence opted to go upstairs. The decision proved to be a masterstroke, as the TV umipire found three reds in ball tracking, eventually asking the on-field umpire to overturn his decision.
After Pope's departure, Joe Root joined hands with the centurion Ben Duckett to steady the English ship. They succeeded in preventing any further damage before stumps on day 2, with England finishing the day with 207 for two in 35 overs.
