India is on the path of another massive collapse as they lost Rishabh Pant, their fifth wicket, in the ongoing first Test match between India and New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The Kiwis have put up a tough challenge for the home team with their brilliant bowling, and this time, Glenn Philips picked up a wicket.

Strong hopes were lamented on Rishabh Pant; however, he failed to bank on them as he fell for a low score of 18 runs off 19 balls. This was a big moment in the game, as the hosts were falling like nine pins.

Glenn Phillips Strikes To Remove Pant

In the 31st over, Phillips bowled a good length delivery on the middle and off. Rishabh Pant rocked back for the classic pull-shot; however, away from expectations, the ball did not bounce as much as the wicketkeeper batter expected, and he missed it on the under edge. The red cherry crashed onto his stumps. This was a crucial wicket for New Zealand as Rishabh Pant, in the previous game, stitched up a brilliant partnership with Sarfaraz Khan before he was robbed of a well-deserving century. Together, this duo saved India from an embarrassing inning loss.

This was a poor shot by Pant. It was short and stayed a bit low. However, Pant tried to pull it but missed and got cleaned up. Now, with half of the Indian side back in the hut, India is still far behind the goal.

India In Troubled Waters After Horrific Collapse

New Zealand got off on the right foot, winning the toss and opting to bat first in Pune. With good performance by Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, New Zealand took a lead of 259 before being bowled out. On Day 1, India lost captain Rohit Sharma for a nine-ball duck and the play was over. However, Day 2 did not rule out in India's favour as they lost wickets at regular intervals. With Gill, Kohli, Yashasvi, Sarfaraz gone, India have a mammoth trail of 152 runs in front of them as they leave for lunch.
