In the ongoing second Test between India and New Zealand at the MCA Stadium in Pune, the hosts are in deep trouble as skipper Rohit Sharma has returned to the pavilion for a duck.

New Zealand, batting first, got off to a positive start but tumbled for just 259 runs, courtesy of a seven-wicket haul from Washington Sundar. In reply, India got off to the worst possible start as they lost Rohit in the 3rd over of the match.

Rohit Sharma Falls For A Duck

On the last ball of the 3rd over, Southee bowled a jaffa as Rohit misjudged the line, and his defence was exposed as the ball hit the top of the off-stump, resulting in a nine-ball duck for the hitman.

The ball was angling towards Rohit, but changed the shape at the last moment and moved away from the MI captain, leaving Rohit stunned by the quality of the bowling.

Tim Southee Becomes Joint-Most Successful Bowler Against Rohit

It is not the first time that Rohit has been troubled by Tim Southee's class as a similar instance took place in the first Test. Notably, in the first Test at Bengaluru, in the first innings, Rohit missed the inswinger, and Southee's delivery rattled his middle stump. In that game, Rohit scored just 2.

Further, it was the 14th time that Southee has got Rohit out in international cricket and has become the joint-most successful bowler against the hitman alongside Kagiso Rabada, who too has got Rohit out 14 times.

Another worrying sign for India ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy is that Rohit has been bowled every time he has come onto bat in this series. At the time of writing this article, India are 9/1, Shubman Gill has walked onto the bat and not opting for a night watchman.
