Rishabh Pant seems to have resorted back to his usual mischievous flair during the Duleep Trophy 2024 season. While the tournament is designed to serve as a dress rehearsal for several Team India players ahead of their hectic Test season, Pant was spotted distracting India A opener Mayank Agarwal with hilarious verbal antics at one stage during the first match of the competition.

Notably, the match between India A and India B marks Pant’s first first-class appearance since the December 2022 Test against Bangladesh in Mirpur. Later that month, the Indian cricketer was involved in a horrific car crash that kept him out of action for the next year-and-a-half.

Rishabh Pant resorts to verbal antics before AUS tour

On Day 2 of the opening match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 season in Bengaluru, India B wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was spotted distracting India A opener Mayank Agarwal by making hilarious noises behind the stumps.

The incident occurred during the early stages of India A innings, when they reached 28-0 in nine overs and still found themselves another 293 runs behind India B.

Mayank Agarwal seemingly remained unfazed with Rishabh Pant’s distractive antics as he went on to bat for a few more overs to score a swift 36 from 45 balls. The opening batter belted eight boundaries in his innings, and was one of the biggest benefactors of India A’s below par first innings total of 231.

Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, might well have demonstrated his wicketkeeping style for this year’s tour of Australia. He also teased Kuldeep Yadav with his quirky character later in the same innings. The cricketer was previously involved in hilarious verbal exchanges with Tim Paine during India’s previous two Test trips ‘Down Under’.

With the bat, Pant failed to leave a mark as he was dismissed for just seven runs on the opening day of the Duleep Trophy 2024 match against India A.
