India's swashbuckling keeper-batter Rishabh Pant recorded a failure in the Perth Test, as he was dismissed by Nathan Lyon for a single-digit score. Coming at number five, Pant managed a solitary run before Lyon deceived him with his clever off-spin bowling.
The incident occurred during the 96th over of India's second innings when Rishabh Pant had just joined Virat Kohli following Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal. With India in the driving seat, the southpaw was expected to extend their lead with his scintillating stroke-play. However, he couldn't live up to his potential this time, as Lyon got his prized scalp at a crucial juncture.
As Australian captain Pat Cummins introduced Nathan Lyon into the attack, Pant instantly charged down the wicket to dominate the veteran bowler. However, as Lyon spotted him dancing down the track, he bowled it wide outside the off stump, spinning the ball away from Pant.
Thus, the wily spinner managed to beat Pant on his outside edge, with Alex Carey dislodging the bails before the Indian batter could make his ground at the striker's end. So, Pant failed to make an impact, letting his fans down hours before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
India Secure A Mammoth Lead In Perth Test
Despite Pant failing to make his innings count, India have secured a huge lead over Australia in the first Test in Perth. At the time of writing, the visitors were 324 for five, with Kohli and Washington Sundar batting on 18* and 1*, respectively.
