From sleeping near Azad Maidan in Mumbai to becoming the next 'King' of Indian cricket, Yashasvi Jaiswal had an inspirational cricketing story. He was a prodigy, but the latent talent had to be unleashed and that responsibility was taken care by his childhood coach, Jwala Singh.
The youngster scored a scintillating century in the ongoing Perth Test and was instrumental in India's comeback against a rampant Australian attack. But the journey to scoring a century in Perth was not that easy.
Jaiswal's rise from rags to riches
Jaiswal, at a very young age came to Mumbai with a dream to become a star for India. However, the journey was not smooth as he faced multiple hurdles and had no place to sleep. For years, he slept in a small tent and used to watch kids practice at the Azad Maidan.
However, one fine day, Jwala Singh spotted him and from there on, Jaiswal's fortunes changed. In a special documentary released by Channel7 of Australia, Jwala Singh revealed how Jaiswal became a star.
When Jaiswal's coach got married in 2014, he told his wife that Jaiswal will stay with them, in their house. Any other person would have rejected the idea, but his wife straightaway said, if making Jaiswal a superstar is your dream, then it is my dream as well.
For almost 9 years, Yashasvi Jaiswal stayed with his coach as both supported each other. Together, they dreamt of Jaiswal becoming the next big thing in Indian cricket, and the dream was achieved when in 2023, the youngsters'. hardwork was rewarded and he was called up to the Indian national team.
India's New King, Jaiswal arrives at big stage
This year, Jaiswal has scored more than 1,000 runs in Test cricket, but his biggest challenge was dominating in Australia. In the first innings of the Perth Test, Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck, but he roared back in style and smashed a brilliant century to put India in the driving seat.
Jaiswal was always touted to replace Virat Kohli as the new King of cricket, and with this ton, he has simply stamped his authority and is the rightful heir to Kohli's throne.
