'If He Needs Any Help…', Hafeez Offers Assistance To Babar Azam After PAK’s 0-3 Defeat

Pakistan collapsed to an eight-wicket defeat to Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), losing the Test series by a 0-3 margin. Senior visiting batsman Babar Azam managed to score just 126 runs across six innings of the series at a substandard average of 21.

The cricketer failed to register a single fifty-plus score throughout the tour to prolong one of the worst batting phases of his career.

After Pakistan's crushing defeat in the third Test, the team's director of cricket and former captain Mohammad Hafeez claimed that he was ready to provide any tactical or mental assistance to Babar if the latter was just willing to ask.

Mohammad Hafeez offers assistance to Babar Azam

Pakistan director of cricketer Mohammad Hafeez acknowledged Babar Azam's recent struggles with the bat and claimed that he is willing to help the number four batsman with any technical or mental difficulties. While speaking with the reporters after Pakistan's crushing defeat at the SCG, Hafeez said:

“If Babar Azam needs any help with his technique, any assistance tactically or in mental side of things, we are always available for him. It is up to the individual to be willing to ask for help.”

The Test series in Australia marked Babar Azam's first set of fixtures since he relinquished captaincy from all formats. In November 2023, the cricketer stepped down from the role after failing to inspire his side at the 2023 World Cup in India.

Babar scored just 320 runs at an average of 40 across nine innings, and the batting veteran seemed to have carried his lacklustre tune to Australian shores the following month.

The 29-year-old is currently slated to turn up for Pakistan in next week's T20I tour of New Zealand. The series serves as a testing ground for the 'Men in Green' for this year's 2024 T20 World Cup, set to be played in West Indies in June.
