Lockie Ferguson, who had an impressive campaign in IPL 2024 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), showed his charisma yet again on Monday when New Zealand met Papua New Guinea in Match 39 of T20 World Cup 2024, as he struck on the very first ball of the day.

More significantly, it was PNG skipper Assad Vala who was at the receiving end of it.

It was a full delivery outside the off stump by Ferguson to Vala, who, batting on 6 off 16 balls, tried to drive away from his body. Placed at wide slip, Daryl Mitchell made no mistake while taking the catch with a reverse-cup style. Of course, the pace was too hot to handle for the PNG skipper.

Ferguson bowled back-to-back maidens after that, showing his rhythm against a depleted PNG side, who are at the bottom of Group C.

At the time of writing this, PNG are 27/2 after 8.5 overs, with Charles Amini and Sese Bau in the middle. They need to shift the gear in order to post a respectable total, as Kiwi bowlers are all over PNG to give Trent Boult a fitting farewell in his last T20 World Cup match.

Notably, Charles Amini, who is batting on 13* off 18 balls, holds the key for PNG.
