In the thrilling sixth match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, it was Sri Lanka who initially seemed to have the upper hand after winning the toss and electing to bat. Opening with Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne, Sri Lanka looked to be in control. However, Gulbadin Naib's breakthroughs changed the course of the game.

Dimuth Karunaratne departed after a well-played 32 off 35 runs, and Kusal Mendis took his place at the crease. Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi added to the pressure with a tight over, allowing only four singles. Then, the game took an unexpected turn as Pathum Nissanka attempted a cut but found Najibullah at backward point, who executed a brilliant low catch. The fiery Gulbadin Naib struck again, dismissing Sadeera Samarawickrama for just 3(8).

Afghanistan seemed to be in control, but it was Rashid Khan who truly turned the tide. In the 4th over of his spell, Khan dismantled Charith Asalanka, breaking his crucial century-plus partnership with Mendis.

As of the latest update, Sri Lanka posted a total of 291 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. With Rashid Khan's brilliant performance, Afghanistan has successfully wrestled control back into their hands, setting the stage for an exciting match ahead.

In response, Afghanistan are 21 for one, with Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib batting on 7* and 9*, respectively.
