In a nerve-wracking moment of the WPL 2024 season, Rajeshwari Gayakwad produced a much-needed breakthrough for UP Warriorz Women by dismissing dangerous Nat Sciver-Brunt who was on a quest to stitch a match-winning partnership with Mumbai Indians Women skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

Mumbai Indians Women were up against UP Warriorz Women for the 14th fixture of the WPL 2024 season earlier today at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The defending champions opted to bat first after winning the toss, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur instantly regretted her decision as MI-W lost both openers in quick succession. Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews were sent back cheaply on single-digit scores by experienced Chamari Athapaththu.

However, to rescue MI-W from the woods, Nat Sciver-Brunt and captain Harmanpreet Kaur stitched a resilient partnership for the third wicket.

But as Nat got closer to her half-century, spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad struck to provide a crucial breakthrough for UP Warriorz Women.

In the 12th over of the first innings, Gayakwad's arm ball turned in after hitting the deck. Nat made room on the backfoot but was beaten by the turn as the ball crashed onto the middle and the leg stump.

Rajeshwari had her victim, and UP desperately needed that breakthrough to put a stoppage to the flow of runs. Both Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet were well-set batters, and had they batted deep, the duo could have caused unsalvageable damage.

Additionally, Gayakwad's crucial breakthroughs not only halted the momentum of the opposition but also swung the game in favor of UP-W, turning the tide in their favor.

However, UP Warriorz's troubles are far from over. A few dropped catches have allowed MI-W back into the game. Anything above 150 will be a tough chase for UP-W under pressure.
