After conceding a mammoth total of 334 through the hands of Bangladesh, Afghanistan were in all sorts of problems as they have to chase the score down against some quality bowlers in a crucial Asia Cup 2023 game. However, they lost their star batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz early in the second over which brought experienced Rahmat Shah to the crease.

The right-hander batted well till the 17th over until he was knocked over by pacer Taskin Ahmed with an outstanding delivery that got his off-stump. Shah had scored 33 until then from 57 deliveries with five fours alongside opener Ibrahim Zadran who managed a crafty 75.

The 78-run stand between the two brought a glimmer of hope for the Afghan nation as they did a decent job of racing towards the target.

Taskin, meanwhile bagged his first wicket of the game as Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud bagged one each. Earlier, Bangladesh sent Mehidy Hasan Miraz as an opener and the plan succeeded as he thumped an incredible hundred beside Najmul Hossain Shanto who also showed his class with a ton to his name.

To the unversed, Bangladesh are in desperate need of a victory which if they fail to achieve will see them getting eliminated from the tournament in the first round itself. This is due to the fact that they lost their first game against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.

On the other hand, Afghanistan are featuring in their inaugural match while their next one is against Sri Lanka only in Lahore.

As of writing, the Afghans are 176 for three down after the end of 34 overs with 159 more needed for victory as skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi and Najibullah Zadran are still at the crease.
