Dynamic keeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz scripted history on Thursday, as he became the first-ever player from Afghanistan to slam an ODI century against Pakistan. The explosive batter showcased his hitting prowess for the umpteenth time, shell-shocking the visitors with his scintillating stroke play.

After negating the new ball threat, the swashbuckling right-handed batter went berserk and hammered the Pakistani bowlers to all parts of the ground. He took a special liking for ace speedster Haris Rauf, smacking him for four consecutive boundaries in the 37th over of the innings.

After playing a sensational scoop shot off the first delivery, Gurbaz took the aerial route off Rauf, collecting a glorious boundary in the cow corner region. He followed it up with a gorgeous pull shot for four through the deep mid-wicket before hitting another boundary towards the third man.

Gurbaz's exceptional batting played a pivotal role in setting the foundation for a mammoth score for Afghanistan. Besides Gurbaz, his opening partner Ibrahim Zadran also took on the visiting seamers, as he compiled a flamboyant 101-ball 80 before getting out to Usama Mir in the 40th over.

As of writing, Afghanistan are in a commanding position in the second ODI, 247 for one in 43 overs, with Gurbaz and Mohammad Nabi batting on 147* and 7*, respectively.
