After securing a thumping win in the first ODI, Pakistan aimed at sealing the series with another victory when the stepped into the field to take on Afghanistan in the second game. However, the visitors had a torrid start to the game, as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran took their new ball bowlers to the cleaners, ensuring a positive start for the hosts. Gurbaz played the aggressor's role to perfection, as he smashed ace Pakistani speedster Shaheen Afridi for plenty of runs in the fifth over. 

As expected, Afridi posed serious challenge to the Afghan opening duo, testing them with his pace and movement. However, after negotiating the new ball, Gurbaz decided to break the shackles, as he took on the left-arm pacer to collect fourteen runs off his third over, including two fours and a six.

After hooking Afridi for a six over square leg fence, the dynamic keeper-batter flicked one for a boundary. As if this wasn't enough, he pulled the speedster for another boundary through the square leg, garnering fourteen runs in this process.

Riding on the openers' scintillating stroke play, Afghanistan got off to a flier in the second ODI in Hambantota. As of writing, the hosts are 45 for no loss, with Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran batting on 28* and 10*, respectively.
