The World Cup 2023 has been quite an interesting tournament and in the 42nd match of the competition, South Africa are taking on Afghanistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Afghanistan decided to bat first in a must-win encounter and started off cautiously but just when Gurbaz, their charismatic opener was looking to explode, Maharaj produced a clever turning delivery which brought Gurbaz's downfall. Heinrich Klaasen should also be credited for the success as he took a splendid sharp diving catch at first slip.

It was the first delivery of the 9th over and Maharaj bowled a nice loopy delivery on off. It was on a fullish length and Gurbaz pressed forward to defend it. However, the ball turned and caught an outside edge of the blade and flew towards right of the first slip fielder where Heinrich Klaasen dived full-length and grabbed it brilliantly.

The wicket was an important breakthrough for South Africa as Afghan openers were looking quite settled in the middle. The wicket of Gurbaz made way for the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran as well in the very next over as Gerald Coetzee bowled a sharp bouncer and from 41-0, Afghanistan have been reduced to 41-2.
