Durban’s Super Giants number three and South African legend Quinton de Kock was caught up in a bizarre dismissal against Paarl Royals spinner Bjorn Fortuin during their recent SA20 2024 faceoff at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground.

Arriving to the crease inside the opening powerplay after the early dismissal of Tony de Zorzi, de Kock managed to list just six runs from his end before he was caught and bowled by Fortuin in the fourth over of the innings.

QDK, Buttler dumbfounded over bizarre dismissal

Durban’s Super Giants star attraction Quinton de Kock found himself undone by a tossed-up leg stump delivery from Bjorn Fortuin. Batting at number three, the dashing left-hander went for a big slog sweep onto his leg side, only to end up connecting the ball with the toe end of his bat. An agile Fortuin, in response, pouched a fairly easy catch off his own bowling to curtail Quinton’s innings for just six.

As it turned out, both Quinton de Kock and Paarl Royals wicketkeeper Jos Buttler searched for the ball up in the air after the left-handed batter swung his bat towards his leg side. Both cricketers were dumbfounded over the underwhelming nature of the dismissal, which signaled Durban’s Super Giants early troubles at 25-2.

Fortunately for the Durban’s Super Giants, opener Matthew Breetzke and belligerent middle-order batter Heinrich Klaasen came up clutch in the innings to lift their side to 208-7 from their 20 overs.

Klaasen blasted a 17-ball 50 in the slog overs while Breetzke top-scored in the innings through his 43-ball 78-run knock.
