Experienced West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran oozed his class with the bat, as he slammed a match-winning knock in the first T20I against South Africa at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. 

Chasing a challenging target of 175 runs, West Indies had a dream start to their innings, with Alick Athanaze and Shai Hope playing scintillating knocks. 

However, Pooran took all the limelight, hammering 65 runs off just 26 deliveries with the help of two boundaries and seven massive sixes. 

He took a particular liking for ace South African speedster Nandre Burger, smashing him for four consecutive sixes during his stay. 

The incident occurred during the 12th over of West Indies' innings when they were comfortably cruising towards a victory. 

In a bid to break the second wicket stand, South African skipper Aiden Markram brought Burger into the attack. However, his move backfired on the visitors, with Nicholas Pooran smacking him for four successive sixes. 

After conceding a single on his first two balls, Burger lost his momentum, as Pooran exploited him for four humongous maximums, collecting 25 runs off the over. 

West Indies secure a commanding win vs South Africa

Riding on the fireworks from Pooran, Hope and Athanaze, West Indies defeated South Africa by seven wickets in the series opener. Both teams will clash in the second T20I of the series at the same venue on August 26.
