Afghanistan have surprised Australia with their bowling performance in the 48th match of the T20 World Cup 2024. The match is being played at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown, St.Vincent.

The pitch at the Arnos Vale Stadium has been slow, and run-scoring has been difficult for the batters on the track. Chasing on this track has been a difficult task. However, ignoring all these facts, the Aussie skipper Mitchell Marsh opted to field first on winning the coin flip.

There was not much resilience shown by the Afghan batting order, barring the top two. However, the opening partnership of 118 runs ensured that Afghanistan posted 148/6 in their 20 overs, which turned out to be a more than competitive total on the day.

Gulbadin Naib ensures a historic Afghan win

Australia looked puzzled from the very beginning of their chase and struggled throughout the chase. Barring Glenn Maxwell, none of the Aussie batters was able to put up resistance against the Afghan bowling attack.

The Australian long-format skipper, Pat Cummins, was their last hope to get across the line. However, Gulbadin Naib deceived Cummins with a wonderful slower delivery in the 17th over and put the final nail in the Australian coffin.

With the dismissal of Cummins, Australia were left reeling at 111/8 in 16.3 overs, the target being almost out of their reach. It was the fourth wicket for Naib in the game, a momentum-changing performance.
