Hardik Pandya failed to capitalize on Suryakumar Yadav’s scintillating 78 against Punjab Kings, considering the Mumbai Indians skipper was holed out by Harpreet Brar off the bowling of Harshal Patel in the death overs.

Leading his side in match number 33 of the IPL 2024 season at Mullanpur, Pandya scored just 10 off six balls before his brief stay was curtailed in the 18th over of the innings.

Batting at number five and arriving to the crease following the dismissal of half-centurion Suryakumar Yadav at 148-3, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma added 19 runs to the team total off the subsequent two overs before the dashing all-rounder was toppled by a length delivery from Harshal Patel.

Attempting to launch Patel out of the ground, Pandya got his bottom hand off before Punjab Kings fielder Harpreet Brar completed a well-adjudged catch way inside the boundary line.

Following the dismissal of Hardik Pandya, Harshal Patel conceded just seven runs off the final over of the innings as Mumbai Indians had to settle down for 192-7. Moreover, Patel also dismissed Mumbai Indians’ overseas stars Tim David and Romario Shepherd to finish with figures of 3-31 from his four overs.

Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians opener and former captain Rohit Sharma scored 36 from 25 and shared an 81-run stand for the second wicket with number three Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar himself pounded 78 runs from just 53 balls with seven boundaries and three sixes to take his side at the brink of the 150-run mark.

Among Punjab Kings bowlers, Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada also assisted Harshal Patel with timely breakthroughs in the innings.
