In what was a rather one-sided clash in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 final, Guyana Amazon Warriors finally laid their hands on the coveted trophy by delivering a crushing defeat to the Trinbago Knight Riders by nine wickets.

Guyana Amazon Warriors clinched their maiden CPL title

This emphatic victory marked the end of their CPL title drought, having faced the heartbreak of being runners-up five times in previous editions.

The game was undeniably dominated by the Warriors from the very start. Justifying their captain’s decision to bowl first, Guyana bowlers instantly reaped rewards by diminishing the Knight Riders to a dismal 49/6 within the first 10 overs.

While Keacy Carty and Dwayne Bravo tried to steer their team out of hot waters with a 32-run partnership, it was Imran Tahir who put a spanner in their brief resurgence by claiming Bravo's wicket. The rest followed suit quickly, culminating in the Knight Riders being bowled out for a meager total of 94.

Dwaine Pretorious emerged as the standout bowler for the Warriors, securing impressive figures of 4/26 in his spell of four overs. Both Gudakesh Motie and Tahir also made noteworthy contributions with two wickets each.

Chasing a modest target, the Guyana Amazon Warriors lost Keemo Paul early on to Akeal Hosein’s. Nevertheless, the duo of Saim Ayub and Shai Hope soon took the reins, displaying a flawless partnership and ensuring the Warriors cruised to victory.

Ayub not only bagged the winning runs with a splendid six but also scored a well-deserved half-century in the process. He concluded his innings with a stellar 52 off 41 balls, while Hope contributed a quick-fire 32 from as many deliveries.

Hope's brilliance throughout the tournament didn’t go unnoticed, as he was rightfully named the Player of the Series. With a staggering 481 runs across 13 matches, he was the leading run-scorer of CPL 2023.
