In a significant move ahead of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024, Fortune Barishal has secured star Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim in their squad for the upcoming tournament.

Fortune Barishal snaged star player Rahim for BPL 2024

Rahim, who previously played for the Sylhet Sixers, found no takers for a direct signing after the Sixers chose not to retain him.

Making the acquisition all the more noteworthy is the fact that Rahim was the sole local player in the high-profile Category A at the auction, boasting a price cap of TK 80 lakh. While Rahim's signing by Barishal was one of the highlights, Rangpur Riders chose to go with Rony Talukdar as their primary draft pick.

However, it wasn't smooth sailing for all top-tier players. Mominul Haque, priced at TK 30 lakh in Category C, and batter Sabbir Rahman, who was in Category E with a cap of TK 15 lakh, were both surprisingly overlooked by the franchises during the draft.

Another point of keen interest this season is the potential inclusion of players from Pakistan. There's optimistic chatter about the availability of Pakistani cricketers for a more extended period in the BPL.

This comes in light of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) possibly facing a delay due to the upcoming elections in Pakistan.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, an official remarked, "The Pakistani players might be available for quite some time in BPL if PSL is shifted for election as we know though there is such kind of suggestions the PSL franchises are against it.”
