Antigua and Barbuda faced off against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the opening clash of he CPL 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. The Patriots managed to kick start their campaign with a win, in an edge of the seat contest, by just one wicket off the last ball.

Imad Wasim dropped the easiest of catches

The Pakistan all-rounder, Imad Wasim was featuring in this game as a part of the Falcons. During the 15th over of the second innings, Wasim dropped a catch that left his skipper, Chris Green visually frustrated.

On the second delivery of the 15th over, Green bowled a good length delivery at the middle stump to Dominic Drakes. The batter was looking to pull the ball hard and in the process mistimes it, top edging it towards the backward square leg region. Wasim who was stationed on the leg side called for the catch, got underneath it and then dropped the easiest of chances.


How the match panned out?

The Falcons were asked to bat first in the game after Andre Fletcher won the toss. They did not have a good start to their innings as they Teddy Bishop early in the innings. However, Fakhar Zaman and young Jewel Andrew played effective hands with the bat and took the total to a competitive 163/4 in their 20 overs. 

In the chase, the Patriots had a good start. Their openers set the platform for them, but in the middle-phase they started to fall apart. However, Kyle Mayers held one end and took the team towards the win with a steady approach. 

Mayers scored 39 off 24 before he was sent back to the hut by Mohammad Amir. The game boiled down to stage, where the Patriots needed seven runs to win off the last six balls. They lost two wickets in this over, but Nortje kept his calm and took the team to a one wicket victory off the last ball of the match.
