Pakistan U-19 fast bowler Ali Raza bowled a sharp nip-backer to dismiss Australia U-19 opener Sam Konstas in the ongoing U-19 World Cup 2024 semi-final game at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Thursday, February 8.

In the crucial semi-final match between Australia U-19 and Pakistan U-19, Pakistan were eager to secure early wickets to defend the modest target of 180 runs set by their batters. Australian openers Sam Konstas and Harry Dixon made a solid start, effectively handling the threat posed by the Pakistani bowlers with the new ball.

The powerplay was over, and Australia was the happier of the two sides. Although they could only score 33 runs, the important thing was that they didn't lose any wickets. They were a touch sedate but ensured that they didn't lose any wickets. Pakistan needed a breakthrough as they looked to come back into the game. And it was provided by Ali Raza in the 11th over, just after the powerplay ended.

The right-arm pacer bowled a good length ball around off-stump that nipped back in. It created a big gap between bat and pad as Konstas pushed forward to defend. The ball took a bit of the inside edge and rattled onto the stumps.

Ali Raza made an immediate impact when introduced into the attack, tightening the screws from the first over itself. His accuracy was evident as he bowled round the wicket to the left-handed Dixon, conceding just two runs but allowing Australia to sneak in quick singles.

Pakistan struggled with the bat throughout the game, as the Australian bowlers kept them under pressure, not giving away much and forcing them out of their comfort zones. Despite late contributions from Azan Awais (52) and Arafat Minhas (52), Pakistan failed to find consistent momentum.

Tom Straker shone for Australia with a remarkable six-wicket haul, which dismantled the in-form Pakistani line-up.

In reply, Australia finds itself in a precarious position, having already lost half of their side. The game hangs in the balance, with victory crucial for advancing to the final showdown against defending champions India.
