Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024, Shahzaib Khan departed for just 4 runs in the semi-final 2 match against Australia on Thursday at Willowmoore Park, Benoni. The southpaw chased a wide delivery outside the off-stump and didn’t bother playing it along the ground. 

Australia’s captain, Hugh Weibgen, stationed at backward point, dived to his right and took a stunning catch. Callum Vidler bowled a bouncer before that delivery and followed that up with a wide delivery outside off, which resulted in Shahzaib Khan’s dismissal.

Shahzaib Khan has shown a rich vein of form in the Under-19 World Cup 2024. In five matches, he has managed to score 260 runs at an average of 65. However, the opener failed to deliver in what was a must-win game for the team. 


Pakistan lost four wickets for 58 runs in 20 overs in the semi-final against Australia  

After being invited to bat first, Pakistan have found themselves in deep trouble as they have lost four wickets for just 58 runs in the first 20 overs of the innings. Australia continued to bowl disciplined lengths, giving only 25 runs in the first eight overs. 

Pakistan lost the first wicket in the form of Shamyl Hussain (17) on the first ball of the ninth over. The pressure of the low run rate was mounting up and it led to the Pakistan batter going for the big shot and he paid the price for that. Shamyl mistimed the pull only to be caught at the square leg region. Shahzaib Khan was the second batter to get out inside the first ten overs. 

Australia continued to pile pressure on them by picking more wickets. Tom Straker had Saad Baig (3) caught at first slip in the 15th over and it was followed by the Ahmad Hassan (4) dismissal in the 19th over.  Eventually, Pakistan got bowled out for 179 and need to bowl out of their skins to make it to the final now.
