A packed crowd at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground stood up and applauded Australian opener David Warner as he walked out to bat for the one last time in Test cricket on Day 4 of the New Year's Test against Pakistan.

With Pakistan setting up a modest target of 130 for Australia to chase in the veteran left-hander's final Test at his home turf in New South Wales, Warner sprinted out to the middle with a round of reception from the supportive crowd that had arrived at the historic venue.

Special arrangements were made for the cricketer by the NSW state association authorities as well as the opposition team. Warner stepped on the 'Thanks Dave' written on the outfield on his way towards the playing square where Pakistani players, as they had done in the first innings, gave the outgoing cricketer a guard of honour.

Having announced his desire to finish off a long Test career at his home ground in Sydney way before June last year, Warner finally fulfilled his dream after an emotional set of three Tests against Pakistan at the height of the Australian summer.

Despite it being a farewell Test, Warner looked ever so determined to make his mark in his last innings in the red-ball format and plundered an attractive half-century in Australia's successful run-chase.

The extravagant left-hander played up to his reputation even on his last day at the Test level and hammered an attractive 57 off 75 deliveries before he was dismissed on the verge of the hosts' eight-wicket victory.

Warner, who had earlier struck a valiant hundred in Perth, contributed brilliantly to Australia's cause for the series and helped them pull off another home series whitewash over Pakistan. Australia's sixth consecutive one against the Asian Giants.
