'Rohit Bhaiya Helps Me Maintain...,' - Jaiswal Talks About India Captain's Support

Yashasvi Jaiswal thanked his skipper and veteran opening partner Rohit Sharma for helping him maintain a "positive frame of mind" at the crease, having now batted together at the top for India over four Test matches on challenging tracks in West Indies and South Africa.

Jaiswal, who had three initial failures during the two-match series in the rainbow nation on extreme seam-friendly surfaces against Proteas' dangerous pace battery, said Rohit's encouragement at the other end helped him back his instincts during a valiant cameo in the run-chase in Cape Town.

Set up a modest but tricky 79-run target on a surface where batters were forced to give up on defending as a method to survive and played shots to fetch quick runs, the young Mumbaikar played a nerve-easing knock of 28 off 23 deliveries in a match-winning 44-run opening stand with his captain.

Jaiswal Lauds Rohit After Cape Town Win

It was a knock which Jaiswal needed to revive his self-confidence that would've taken a beating through a set of failures earlier in the series as he expressed gratitude towards his attacking skipper for giving a tap on his shoulders when he went for his strokes against Kagiso Rabada & company.

"Rohit Sharma helps me maintain a positive frame of mind, and we needed to score runs quickly against the new ball," Jaiswal told RevSportz after pushing India to a historic maiden Test win in Cape Town."I just wanted to give a good start, and that was all there in my mind as we had to win the match. In the last 3 innings and even in this knock, I had done the same thing."

Rohit's experience and presence at the other end acts as a wonderful guiding image for Jaiswal to propel to the heights his talent could reach at the Test level. After starting his career impressively in trying circumstances in the Caribbean and now South Africa, the 21-year-old left-hander would be hoping to make it big on home shores against England.
