India's premier domestic First-Class competition, the Ranji Trophy 2024 got underway today and already witnessed a major record registered.

In the plate encounter between Hyderabad and Nagaland at Nagaland Cricket Association Stadium in Dimapur, making his debut for the former state Gahlaut Rahul Singh recorded the second-fastest double-ton in Indian FC cricket, coming off just 143 deliveries.

Singh took apart a weak Nagaland bowling and slammed a blistering 214 from 157 balls, which included nine monstrous sixes and 23 fours.

The record for the fastest FC double hundred in India belongs to former Team India player and coach Ravi Shastri, who scored a 123-ball 200 for Bombay (now Mumbai) against Baroda at Wankhede in 1985, which is also the fastest in terms of minutes spent.

Singh formed an impressive 80-run stand with opener Tanmay Agarwal and then stitched a 118-run stand with skipper Tilak Varma, who himself scored an unbeaten century.

Singh's innings came to an end after Khrievitso Kense picked the former's wicket for 214.

During his knock, the youngster also surpassed 3,000 FC runs, which include nine hundred and 15 half-centuries, having earlier played for Services.

Before moving base, the 28-year-old became the first batter for Services to score more than 450 runs in a single season, having amassed 505 in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy edition.

Speaking about the encounter, after Hyderabad declared their innings on 474 for 5, Nagaland at the end of Day 1 are 35 for 1, with Joshua Ozukum and Sedezhalie Rupero batting on 26* and 7* respectively still trailing by 439 runs.
