England To Travel With Personal Chef To India For Test Series To Avoid Player Illness

With a five-match Test series against India looming from January 25 to March 11, England is taking health precautions seriously. The team is set to travel with their personal chef to ensure the well-being of the players and minimise the risk of food-related issues during the extended tour.

As per a report in The Telegraph, the chef is slated to join the team in Hyderabad a day before their opening Test on January 25. His focus will be on tailoring meals to meet the players' nutritional and protein requirements.

Here, it’s worth mentioning that this won't be England's first instance of bringing their personal chef on tour, having previously done so during their tour to Pakistan. This precautionary measure aims to safeguard the players from potential illnesses.

Although it may prompt questions about England's comfort level with India's facilities, hotels, and food, the team clarifies that it's not about distrust but rather prioritizing nutritious meals, especially for players who avoid spicy food, instead of relying on energy bars and pizzas.

England Cricket Team Pioneers Personal Chef Travel Trend

Omar Meziane, the chef previously associated with the team in Pakistan and now a member of Manchester United, was warmly welcomed into the touring squad. The team's high morale resonated in their on-field performance, as they went on to secure a 3-0 victory in the Test series.

While it's a standard practice for leading football teams and international rugby sides to bring their own chefs on foreign tours, England is pioneering this approach in cricket.

This move, despite the potential risk of offending hosts given India's renowned hospitality, seems unlikely to face objections from the BCCI, particularly since the ECB will cover the chef's expenses.
